TUESDAY WEEK 9

There is no class on Tuesday. See you on Wednesday when you finish your analyses, share them with me and send them to Urkund.

What are we doing?

On Friday we will read and discuss an essay written by a university student.
Aim: Study the model of writing longer essays, study the theme we have been working with and learn how to connect thoughts with transitions.

On Tuesday next week you will discuss your novels. The purpose is to help each other to understand the novels better and get each other's views. Bring the novels with you to class.

Write an analysis: You will have three lessons for writing about your books. I will hand you a model to use.

Send to: gudrun.engstrom.hlbs@analys.urkund.se
and share with geng@skola.kiruna.se

On Friday 4 March you are to talk about your books in transversal groups. In this way you suddenly know the plot of five novels.

Improve your social skills - today Wednesday

We will start preparing ourselves for how to socialise at an afternoon tea party, later in spring, by watching a lecture and study common phrases and expressions.

Practise social skill for an assignment where you are invited to afternoon tea at Gudrun's Palace.

You will act a historical character who is to socialise and mingle with other characters. More about it later.

Discussing literature

PREPARE YOURSELVES AND EACH OTHER FOR WRITING AN ANALYSIS
Help each other by giving your own views of the novels you have studied.

Use these questions to help you talk about your novels. It is essential to find examples or quotes in the text to support your answers.

* The title  - in connection to the plot, as I see it. (plot)
* Who tells the story? (narrator)
* Which character do I feel that I know best after reading the novel? (character)
* Which character changes the most throughout the novel? (character)
* Where in the world and when does the story take place? What year, time of day or season etc.
( setting)
* Of all the things that happen in the novel, what do you react to the most? (plot)
* Does the story remind you of anything important in life such as money, love, friendship, death ...?
(theme)
Most stories have an underlying theme that is supposed to make the reader think about important things in life. These themes are universial and everyone can identify with them.

Always remember that your comments are yours; there are no completely true or false answers to the questions. as long as you can give examples from the text and give reasons for your opinions your analysis is fine.
