News Broadcast
Here you will find the instructions to your next group assignment called News Broadcast.

Your assignment is to create your own news headline and present in front of a camera.

Vocabulary:

News broadcast = the broadcasting of various news, events and other information via television, radio or internet. The content is usually either produced locally or in a newsroom, or by a broadcast network. It may also include material as sports coverage, weather forecasts, traffic reports, commentary and other material that the broadcast feels is relevant to their audience.  (Wikipedia)

News anchor = In United States and Canada, news anchors (also known as "anchorpersons", "anchormen", or "anchorwomen") present material prepared for a news program and, at times, must improvise commentary for live presentation. Many anchors are also involved in writing and/or editing the news for their program. Some famous Swedish news anchors are Claes Elfsberg (used to work for Rapport SVT), Katarina Sandström (Rapport SVT) Anna Lindmarker and Petra Nordlund (TV 4)
Assignment reporter = reports from various places in the world

These examples also show that you must think about the planning and shooting of your broadcast.

The assignment

In groups you are supposed to create your own news broadcast. Use either your computers or your mobile phones to videotape/shoot the news. You are to publish your broadcasts on YouTube (Mark SHARE, COPY THE LINK and SHARE THE LINK with me).

Imagine you are a part of a news broadcasting team where every person has her/his part to present in a live news broadcast. Before shooting, the group must decide which part each person will present; will it be local, national or international news or maybe economic, cultural, sports news or a weather report? Use your imagination!

You will work in groups of four persons, in two groups there will be five.. Each person in the group will have one news headline to develop a story around.

Every news headline story should answer the six journalistic questions - WHAT? WHO? WHEN? WHERE? WHY? and HOW?

Base your story on your news headline on these questions. Use FORMAL LANGUAGE, i.e include LINKING WORDS/TRANSITIONS, passive form and an APPROPRIATE VOCABULARY. Make sure that the group includes a PROPER INTRODUCTION, a clear and accurate HAND OVER to the next person and a good CLOSURE in your broadcast.

Peer response

Before shooting your part, you will be given peer response by your group members. When everyone is prepared to shoot you use suitable equipment for the purpose; your computer or mobile phone.

You may arrange the clips exactly the way you want just make sure that the finished product is in one piece when you upload the clip. If you want to include music (vignette), pictures or such you are most welcome to do so. (Check copy right!) The entire clip should not exceed 15 minutes. When you are satisfied with the clip you upload on YouTube and email the link to me.
